Power Boat
There Are Several Ways A Boat Owner Might Choose To Ship A Boat.
Oversize Power Boat
Don't assume all methods of transporting your boat will be legal or that your boat will be properly insured. Carthage Marine Transport wants
to help you to minimize the risk and problems of boat transportation. CMT will try to help the private boat owner, boat manufacturer, or boat
dealer in shipping their boats, no matter what method is chosen for transporting the boat:
Do-It-Yourself Boat Transportation
Some boat owners might want to ship a boat themselves. In some cases, this might be feasible if the boat is not too large, and you
have the correct truck, trailer, equipment, insurance, legal and boat transportation knowledge.
Prior to shipping a boat yourself, you should check the regulations in each state you will be traveling through to insure  you are
familiar with and can meet all legal criteria required for each state.
In some cases, CMT may actually be able to transport your boat cheaper for you by adding the boat to another shipment or
shipping the boat on an otherwise empty trailer.  There is a good possibility CMT will have a truck in your area within 1-2 weeks.
Call Carthage Marine Transport (417) 246-1203) and talk with Travis, prior to shipping your boat yourself, to see how CMT  might
be able to assist you in your boat move.

Online Boat Transport Marketplace
There are several online sites where you can list the boat to be shipped and receive bids from several boat transporters for the
move. This is an auction type of system and in some cases this can be a satisfactory option.
The burden for making sure the actual boat transporter is legal, insured, and qualified is usually up to the boat owner, not the
company conducting the auction. Be cautious with the auction type of system; cheapest is not always best or safe.
If you choose to have your boat shipped through this type of company, be sure and verify the carrier's credentials on FMCSA
(Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) website. The auction provider does not do this.
On the FMCSA website enter either the company's DOT Number, MC Number, Legal Name, or DBA Name. Carrier Search page
will come up with the carriers summary legal information.
Go to View Details to insure the Carriers Common Authority is ACTIVE, Contract Authority is ACTIVE, and Property (for
insurance) is YES. Insurance Type, insure the BIPD On File has a $ amount and on Cargo Insurance, there is a YES.
SaferSystem is another FMCSA website where you can obtain a Company Snapshot of a carrier's license and insurance by
entering either the USDOT number, the MC number, or the name of the carrier.

Boat Transportation Broker
Some boat owners might prefer to utilize a boat transportation broker to arrange the boat transportation.
A broker arranges, for a fee, the transportation of the boat , utilizing for-hire carriers to provide the actual truck transportation.
A broker does not assume responsibility for the cargo and usually does not take possession of the cargo.
There are some valid reasons to choose a broker for boat moving facilitation and there are several brokers that are well-capitalized,
well-managed, reputable, honest and can be safely used.also a licensed and fully insured broker
CMT, in addition to being a licensed and fully insured carrier,CMT is also a licensed and fully insured broker.
If you choose to use a broker, be sure to check out the legal and insurance status of the broker on FMCSA website.
On the FMCSA website enter either the Broker's DOT Number, MC Number, Legal Name, or DBA Name. Carrier Search page
will come up with the Broker's summary legal information.
Go to View Details-insure the Broker's Authority Status is ACTIVE, Property (insurance) is YES, and NO for Application Pending.
Under Insurance Type, verify the Bond Insurance Required is YES and Insurance On File is YES.
A good broker will have current legal authority and will only utilize good, licensed, and insured boat transportation companies
shipping boats they have contracted for. There are good brokers and bad brokers. Use care if choosing a broker.
If the Broker does not have current legal authority or if the broker is not using properly licenced and insured carriers , you could be
taking a MAJOR RISK in using that broker as an agent for transporting your boat.

Boat Transport Company
When choosing a company to ship your boat, always verify the legal and insurance status of the carrier on FMCSA or SaferSystem
web site using the same instructions contained in Online Transport Marketplace system.
A reputable company will share or make available their DOT information to the prospective boat shipper.
In addition to making sure the company operates legally and with proper insurance, it is essential that the company is reputable,
has proper equipment, professional drivers, and adequate experience transporting your type of boat or yacht.

When selecting a boat transportation company, price of the shipment is important, but should not be the only criteria.
Shipping your boat through an
Online Transport Marketplace, Boat Transportation Broker, or with a Boat Transport Company  that is not
legal or reputable is a
MAJOR RISK for the boat owner.  Carthage Marine Transport is a professional boat transportation company,
